Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing, where both leaders reaffirmed the “iron-clad” Pakistan-China all-weather strategic partnership. The two sides agreed to accelerate CPEC’s second phase, expand bilateral cooperation, and strengthen coordination on key regional and global matters.
Shehbaz lauded Xi’s “visionary leadership”, while Xi assured Pakistan of China’s continued support for growth and stability.
Focus on CPEC and Bilateral Cooperation
Both leaders highlighted the need to deepen cooperation under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor’s second phase. Shehbaz said Pakistan considered CPEC “a game-changer for regional connectivity and economic development.” Xi responded that China “will firmly support Pakistan’s development and safeguard its stability.”
Upcoming Meetings with Russia and Tajikistan
After Beijing, PM Shehbaz is scheduled to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin and Tajik President Emomali Rahmon to discuss matters of bilateral and international importance. Officials said the discussions would include trade, energy, and security cooperation.
Engagements Beyond Diplomacy
During his stay, the Prime Minister will also meet Premier Li Qiang, interact with leading Chinese business figures, and attend a military parade commemorating the 80th anniversary of the World’s Anti-Fascist War alongside President Xi and other world leaders.
