Pakistan has received a $6 million grant from China for the reconstruction of houses in flood-affected Balochistan, according to official data released by the Economic Affairs Division for July 2025. The grant comes as heavy monsoon rains this season have killed 802 people nationwide, including 24 in Balochistan, and damaged hundreds of homes.
Aid to Support Displaced Families
Adviser to the Finance Minister Khurram Shehzad said the grant is aimed at providing durable housing solutions to displaced families in Balochistan, one of Pakistan’s most climate-vulnerable regions. He emphasised that China’s support highlights its commitment to strengthening Pakistan’s housing and infrastructure capacity, particularly in disaster-prone areas.
Economic and Social Impact
Economist Dr. Nadeem-ul-Haq noted that the reconstruction initiative would not only provide shelter but also stimulate local economic activity, create jobs, and enhance community resilience. He stressed that such aid paves the way for broader infrastructural growth and long-term recovery strategies.
Part of Broader Cooperation
China has long assisted Pakistan in times of crisis, extending grants, relief supplies, and reconstruction aid. The latest contribution is part of Beijing’s wider development assistance, which also covers energy, infrastructure, and scientific research under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Both nations continue to expand their strategic and economic partnership, with housing reconstruction marking another step in deepening bilateral ties.
