Gwadar’s New Gwadar International Airport (NGIA) has resumed two commercial flights, marking a significant milestone for the region’s air connectivity and economic growth, according to Gwadar Pro.
Until recently, NGIA offered only one regular route between Karachi and Gwadar. With the restored flights now operating on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, passengers and cargo operators have more flexibility, reducing travel time and costs.
The government has allocated around $19 million (Rs4 billion) for NGIA in the 2025-26 Public Sector Development Program. The airport’s total cost stands at approximately $260 million (Rs54.98 billion), with $202 million (Rs42.71 billion) already spent.
Before NGIA’s launch, travellers heading to Gwadar had no direct flight options except from Karachi, often facing lengthy, expensive detours. The state-of-the-art facility aims to change that, offering faster, more frequent connections that could stimulate trade, tourism, business opportunities, and job creation which will eventually the goals of CPEC.
Several private airlines, including Fly Jinnah, Air Sial, Air Blue, and Serene Air, have applied to begin operations at NGIA, indicating further expansion in flight services shortly.
