China has reiterated its call for an urgent and lasting ceasefire in Gaza amid the ongoing humanitarian catastrophe. Speaking at a UN Security Council meeting on the Palestine-Israel issue, China’s Deputy Permanent Representative Geng Shuang emphasised that continued military escalation will only worsen the crisis and prolong civilian suffering. Geng stated that more than 60,000 people have lost their lives due to Israeli operations, underscoring that “only a ceasefire can save lives and bring hostages home.”
China Warns Against Israeli Military Expansion in Gaza
Expressing grave concern over Israel’s reported plans to intensify military actions and occupy Gaza, Geng urged an immediate halt to such actions. He called on all parties to agree to a binding and sustainable Gaza ceasefire and appealed to influential nations to act responsibly to de-escalate tensions. China strongly opposed any moves that could further inflame the conflict or jeopardise peace efforts.
Humanitarian Crisis in Gaza Worsening, China Warns
Highlighting the worsening humanitarian crisis, Geng pointed out that nearly two million civilians in Gaza are enduring severe hardships due to the blockade. He stressed that famine is becoming a serious threat and condemned restrictions on humanitarian aid as a form of collective punishment. China called for the full restoration of aid access and urged Israel to comply with international humanitarian law and support UN relief operations.
China Reaffirms Support for Two-State Solution
China reaffirmed its position that the two-state solution remains the only viable path to peace in the region. Geng urged renewed international efforts to establish an independent Palestinian state and resolve the long-standing conflict. He warned against unilateral actions that undermine this process, referring to the global consensus expressed during last week’s high-level UN General Assembly session.
China Committed to Peace and Stability in Gaza
China reiterated its commitment to work with the global community to push for a Gaza ceasefire, alleviate humanitarian suffering, and advance political solutions. Geng concluded by emphasising that a just and lasting resolution is essential so both Palestinians and Israelis can achieve lasting peace and prosperity.
