In response to the US Air Force’s launch of Resolute Force Pacific 2025, a high-intensity military drill in the Western Pacific seen as a real-world test of Agile Combat Employment and a key pillar of Washington’s Indo-Pacific strategy, China has issued a sharp rebuke.
Senior Colonel Zhang Xiaogang, spokesperson for China’s Ministry of National Defence, criticised the U.S. move on Wednesday, stating that the Pacific Ocean should be “a sea of peace, not a stage for stirring up trouble.” He accused the United States of clinging to a Cold War mentality by parading military strength in the region, using large-scale exercises to form alliances, intimidate other nations, and disrupt regional peace and stability.
Zhang reiterated that the Chinese military remains calm and prepared. “Come wind or waves, we remain steady at the fishing platform,” he said, a phrase underscoring China’s firm stance. He emphasised the PLA’s capability to handle any emerging risks while safeguarding China’s sovereignty, security, and development interests. Zhang further stressed that the Chinese military will continue to serve as a strong stabilising force in the region and beyond.
