A high-level Chinese business delegation led by Yi Jiang, Director of the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce (ACFIC), met with Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Energy, Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari, to explore strategic investment opportunities in the country. Discussions focused on energy cooperation, industrial relocation, and technology transfer, with an emphasis on electric vehicles, solar energy, charging infrastructure, and lithium storage systems.
Representing China’s dynamic private sector, ACFIC is expanding its global footprint across 155 countries, including Pakistan. The delegation expressed strong interest in relocating select Chinese industries to Pakistan while fostering partnerships with local firms. They highlighted the Matiari transmission line as a benchmark project, noting that future investments could not only serve Pakistan but also meet regional energy demands.
Crypto mining was also floated as an innovative approach to introduce flexibility into Pakistan’s national grid. The delegation reaffirmed their commitment to developing projects that are financially sustainable and technically viable.
Minister Leghari welcomed the proposals and reiterated Pakistan’s openness to industrial collaboration and technology exchange. However, he underscored that due to prevailing financial constraints, the government is unable to offer subsidized electricity to industries. He encouraged the delegation to propose self-sustaining financial models that align with national interests and operate independently of state subsidies.
