Pakistan is making a notable step towards strengthening its role in the global digital landscape, with Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, currently showcasing Pakistan at the prestigious World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) 2025 in Shanghai.

Shaza is leading the official delegation from Pakistan. She’s presenting the nation’s digital transformation agenda and highlighting its innovation receptiveness with advanced technologies, smart framework, and data-driven innovation. The Pakistani minister’s attendance at the global forum is noted as a step forward in Pakistan’s ambition to become an active contributor to the international AI ecosystem.

The conference, which brings together leading voices in tech, governance, and industry, is a key avenue for discussion on AI-led development. Shaza is expected to lay out Pakistan’s digital policy framework, which focuses on inclusive innovation, economic modernization, and the integration of advanced technologies across major sectors.

As a component of her outreach, the minister also held an advanced talk with Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong. Both of them had a dialogue on potential opportunities for expanding bilateral cooperation in the digital sector, with a specific priority on smart cities, AI collaboration, and broader technology partnerships. The discussion opened gateways for future joint projects in skill development, digital infrastructure, and knowledge-sharing.

The Pakistani minister highlighted Pakistan’s focus on using digital tools to accelerate sustainable development and provide efficient public services. In reply, the Chinese ambassador reiterated China’s support for Pakistan’s digital strategy through joint efforts and technical expertise.

The meeting declared both parties’ shared interest in forming long-term collaboration under the wider CPEC infrastructure, with digital connectivity emerging as a cornerstone. As global interest in AI and smart technologies advances, Pakistan’s participation in WAIC 2025 indicates its readiness to partner with international stakeholders and harness innovation for national development.

The engagements of the Pakistani delegation aimed not only to drive Pakistan’s digital readiness but also to strengthen digital ties with China, a major partner in Pakistan’s technological enhancement and infrastructure development.

As the digital economy becomes increasingly central to global advancement, this visit accentuates Pakistan’s determination to remain at the forefront of evolution and tap into opportunities for cross-border collaboration, especially with trusted allies like China.
