Chinese envoy condemns U.S. attacks on Iran’s nuclear sites during an emergency UNSC meeting on Sunday.
China’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Fu Cong, condemned the United States during an emergency UN Security Council meeting on Sunday for launching airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.
Fu stated that on Saturday, the U.S. had attacked three nuclear sites in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. He firmly denounced the strikes, noting that the facilities were under the safeguards of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
He emphasized that the U.S. action was a serious violation of the UN Charter, international law, and Iran’s sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity. Fu warned that the strikes had intensified tensions in the Middle East and significantly undermined the global nuclear non-proliferation framework.
The Chinese envoy urged the international community to stand for justice and take meaningful steps to de-escalate the crisis and restore peace and stability in the region.
He also called for an immediate ceasefire and a halt to all hostilities.
Fu expressed grave concern over the rapidly escalating situation in the Middle East, warning of the risk that the conflict could spiral out of control. He specifically urged Israel to cease fire to prevent further escalation and to avoid a broader regional conflict.
He concluded by stressing that all parties must respect international law, refrain from using force, and avoid actions that could further inflame the situation.
