Chinese FM calls for more success stories in China-Africa cooperation as he attended the reception held in Changsha to mark the 25th anniversary of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized the importance of generating more success stories from China-Africa cooperation to strengthen bilateral ties and support Africa’s pursuit of self-reliant development and improved living standards.
During his remarks, Wang referenced the inspiring journey of Musa Darboe, a Gambian farmer and entrepreneur, who greatly benefited from China’s hybrid rice technology, showcasing the positive impact of agricultural collaboration.
He made these comments while speaking with Darboe at a reception held in Changsha, Hunan Province, to mark the 25th anniversary of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation.
At the event, Darboe recounted how Chinese scientist Yuan Longping’s hybrid rice technology helped him significantly boost crop yields. With the guidance of Chinese agricultural experts, he was able to achieve prosperity and help his community overcome hunger.
As a token of gratitude, Darboe brought his rice from the Gambia to China to honor Yuan Longping. He also expressed his eagerness to further explore Chinese agricultural techniques and contribute to expanding China-Gambia cooperation.
Wang reiterated that improving the livelihoods of everyday Africans is a core focus of China-Africa relations, and China remains committed to pursuing mutual benefit and delivering practical gains for the African people.
Hunan Province, where the reception took place, was home to Yuan Longping, the late pioneer of hybrid rice, who made lasting contributions to global food security before his passing in 2021 at age 91.
