He issued the directive while presiding over a meeting in Islamabad to evaluate the PSDP budget proposals in line with the Finance Ministry’s indicative budget ceiling of 1,000 billion rupees allocated to federal ministries and divisions for the fiscal year 2025–26.
During the meeting, the minister stressed that the country’s water scarcity is a pressing concern, and the completion of the Diamer-Bhasha Dam will not only address this issue but also provide 4,500 megawatts of electricity.
He underscored the need to prioritize new projects based on their relevance to the national development agenda, URAAN Pakistan.
Ahsan Iqbal urged all ministries to focus on high-impact projects that are nearing completion and are vital to development goals.
As Ahsan Iqbal urges timely completion of Diamer-Bhasha Dam, he also instructed ministries to compile a list of essential and high-priority projects that could be adversely affected by potential cuts to the development budget.
