Government commits to Sukkur-Hyderabad motorway completion as it is an important infrastructure project for economic development.

Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb assured the National Assembly that the Sukkur-Hyderabad-Karachi Motorway is a vital infrastructure project for enhancing Pakistan’s economic connectivity and will be completed under all circumstances.

Responding to parliamentary concerns, the minister emphasized that the project remains a top priority and will move forward using funds from either international sources or the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP).

He mentioned that the federal budget is still being finalized, and the Planning Minister will be briefed about the motorway’s significance to ensure suitable budgetary allocation.

Minister of State for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives, Chaudhry Armaghan Subhani, responding to a calling attention notice, clarified that while the project is absent from the PSDP 2024–25, it will be prioritized and included in the PSDP 2025–26 under multiple funding channels.

He stated that the Ministry of Communications has already proposed a Rs 10 billion allocation for M-6 in the next development program, although the figure is subject to change.

The minister added that the project will be supported not only through the PSDP but also via foreign financing and Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangements, with efforts underway to initiate work in the upcoming fiscal year.

He informed the House that discussions with international financial institutions like the Asian Development Bank (ADB) are ongoing for co-financing the motorway.

Rejecting claims of favoritism, he clarified that the project is not focused on Punjab, as only a small portion lies there, with most of the route spanning Sindh and Balochistan, including strategic links such as Karachi to Quetta.

He confirmed that the motorway is in an advanced planning stage, with land acquisition and initial groundwork already in progress.

Highlighting the government’s broader motorway vision initiated by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, he reaffirmed full commitment to completing the Sukkur-Hyderabad Motorway.

The minister concluded that this project will help close a key infrastructure gap, stimulate economic activity, and improve regional connectivity.
