Police officer martyred in Gwadar hand grenade attack after he exchanged fire in an attempt to chase assailants.
A police officer was martyred during an exchange of gunfire after attackers threw a hand grenade near a mosque in Gwadar, according to police reports.
Gwadar Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Zia Mandokhail confirmed that a residential area occupied by people from Punjab was targeted with a hand grenade near Bilal Mosque on Syed Hashmi Avenue. The attackers fired shots into the air before fleeing.
As the attackers tried to escape, a police constable present at the scene immediately responded and pursued one of them.
The constable’s prompt action led to the death of one attacker, Shah Jahan, while another attacker, Shahzad, was critically injured.
Unfortunately, during the exchange of fire, police constable Muhammad Khamari was martyred. Additionally, three other people were injured in the attack, according to SSP Mandokhail.
The intensity of militant violence and security operations increased in March 2025, with the number of militant attacks exceeding 100 for the first time since November 2014, as reported by the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies.
