Two day China Film Festival lights up Lahore showcasing expanding cultural ties between the two countries.
The two-day China Film Festival kicked off with vibrant celebrations at Universal Cinema, Emporium Mall, on April 26, showcasing a rich blend of Chinese films, cultural expressions, and societal flavors.
This festival, taking place from April 26 to 27, marks the first major Chinese film initiative in Punjab — Pakistan’s cinema hub — organized through collaboration between the Chinese Consulate Lahore, the Institute of International Relations & Media Research, the China National Film Administration, the China Film Archive, and Punjab’s Information & Culture Department.
At the festival’s opening ceremony, Chinese Consul General in Lahore Zhao Shiren remarked that hosting the China Film Festival in Lahore was timely and perfectly placed. He emphasized that cinema, like food and language, serves as a universal medium that bridges divides, fosters dialogue, and brings cultures closer by connecting hearts across civilizations.
The consulate curated five Chinese films in their original language with English subtitles for the audience in Lahore and Punjab: The Wandering Earth and its sequel; The Battle of Lake Changjin, a historical war epic set during the Korean War; My People, My Country, an anthology film reflecting significant moments from 1949 to 2019; and Great Love Dunhuang, a biographical drama portraying a female archaeologist’s efforts to preserve the Mogao Grottoes, a UNESCO World Heritage site in northwest China.
