China expects the incoming Canadian government to take a constructive and practical stance toward bilateral relations, a foreign ministry spokesperson stated on Monday.
During a routine press briefing, spokesperson Mao Ning commented on Mark Carney’s victory in Canada’s ruling party leadership race on Sunday, positioning him as the successor to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
“We have taken note of the reports and extend our congratulations to Mr. Carney,” Mao said, emphasizing that China has always advocated for bilateral relations based on mutual respect, equality, and shared benefits.
She further expressed hope that Canada would adopt an objective and rational perspective on China, pursue a pragmatic approach, and collaborate with China to enhance and strengthen their relationship.
