The navies of Iran, Russia, and China are set to conduct joint military exercises off Iran’s coast this week to enhance cooperation.
The exercises will commence on Tuesday at the port of Chabahar, situated in southeastern Iran along the Gulf of Oman. The duration of the drills is not specified. The participating forces will include warships, combat vessels, and support ships from the Chinese and Russian navies, alongside Iranian warships from both the army and the Revolutionary Guards, the military’s ideological wing.
The exercises will be conducted in the northern Indian Ocean with the objective of improving regional security and fostering multilateral cooperation among the involved nations.
Several countries, including Azerbaijan, South Africa, Oman, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Qatar, Iraq, the UAE, and Sri Lanka, will observe the drills.
China’s Ministry of Defense confirmed that it will send a destroyer and a supply vessel for the exercises. In a related development, Iran’s military had already carried out drills in the same area in February to reinforce its defense capabilities against potential threats.
