China has expressed its readiness to enhance space collaboration with Pakistan as per Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian, who stated that a Pakistani astronaut is set to join the Chinese space station in the near future.
Last week, Pakistan’s space agency, SUPARCO, signed a cooperation agreement with China, marking a significant step toward sending the country’s first astronaut on a mission to the Chinese space station, Tiangong.
As part of the agreement, the Pakistani astronaut will receive training as a scientific payload specialist, preparing them to conduct research aboard the space station. Their mission will encompass a broad range of scientific experiments, including biological and medical sciences, aerospace technology, applied physics, fluid mechanics, space radiation studies, ecology, material sciences, microgravity research, and astronomy.
Lin Jian emphasized China’s commitment to deepening space cooperation with Pakistan, stating that this collaboration would further boost the socioeconomic development of both nations through advanced space technologies. His remarks were shared in a social media post by the Chinese embassy.
Speaking to press conference on Monday, Lin highlighted that the exploration of space has always been a shared human aspiration. He welcomed the signing of the space cooperation agreement between China and Pakistan and expressed confidence in the success of the Pakistani astronaut’s upcoming mission.
Lin further noted that since the inception of China’s manned space program, Beijing has adhered to principles of peaceful utilization, equality, mutual benefit, and collective progress. He reiterated China’s willingness to share the benefits of its space advancements with the global community and extend cooperation opportunities within its space station.
Pakistan and China have strengthened their space collaboration in recent years, engaging in joint satellite projects and planning future lunar missions. In January, both countries signed a memorandum of understanding to include Pakistan’s first lunar rover in China’s Chang’e 8 mission, scheduled for 2028.
