China, Vietnam launch overland passenger border-crossing channel aiming to boost trade, tourism and cultural exchange.
China and Vietnam have launched a new overland passenger border-crossing channel to strengthen bilateral cooperation and facilitate people-to-people exchanges.
The new channel connects China’s Dongzhong Port with Vietnam’s Hoanh Mo Port, designed to handle 500,000 passenger crossings and 30,000 passenger vehicle trips annually. This development is expected to enhance cross-border travel, tourism, and trade between the two nations.
Dongzhong Port, located in Fangchenggang City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, is separated from Hoanh Mo Port in Vietnam’s Quang Ninh Province by a river. It serves as a crucial land route to ASEAN, but until now, it was not open for tourist entries and exits.
China has multiple land ports with Vietnam along its borders in Guangxi and Yunnan. Since November 2023, China has been refining its visa-free transit policies to encourage openness and cultural exchanges. In a recent move, ASEAN tour groups can now visit Xishuangbanna in Yunnan Province visa-free for up to six days, further promoting regional tourism and connectivity.
