Eight injured in a bomb blast attacking convoy in Kalat, Balochistan through improvised explosive device implanted on Quetta-Karachi National Highway.
8 individual, including six security personnel, sustained injuries in a bomb blast targeting a truck convoy transporting copper in the Mangochar area of Kalat district on Monday.
As per officials, a convoy of 29 trucks carrying blaster copper from the Saindak project to Karachi was attacked along the Quetta-Karachi National Highway in Mangochar. The assailants had planted an improvised explosive device (IED) near the Nadra office on the main highway. The device detonated as the convoy, accompanied by Frontier Corps (FC) security personnel, reached the location, severely damaging a security vehicle.
Following the explosion, an intense exchange of gunfire took place, lasting for some time. The blast left eight individuals injured, including six security personnel and a truck driver. A senior Kalat administration official confirmed the injuries, stating that all affected individuals were transported to the district hospital in Kalat for medical treatment.
Authorities also confirmed that no Chinese nationals were present in the convoy. The explosion led to the temporary suspension of traffic on the Quetta-Kalat highway, which was later reopened after security clearance.
Furthermorem, a senior official from Metallurgical Corporation of China’s MRDL, the company overseeing the Saindak copper-gold project for over two decades, verified the incident, adding that two individuals, including a truck driver, were wounded in the gunfire and subsequently taken to Civil Hospital in Quetta for treatment.
