QUETTA  – Levies official martyred in Kalat check-post attack, as confirmed by Balochistan government spokesperson.

A Levies officer was martyred, and two others sustained injuries on Sunday while repelling a terrorist attack on a checkpost in Balochistan’s Kalat district, officials confirmed. In a statement, Balochistan government spokesperson Shahid Rind stated that the attack resulted in one casualty among the Levies personnel, while two others were wounded.

Rind noted that the Levies force swiftly retaliated, compelling the attackers to flee. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident. The injured officials were transferred to Quetta for medical treatment.

The spokesperson further announced that security agencies had been directed to conduct a search operation to track down the assailants. He expressed the Balochistan government’s condolences, honoring the sacrifice of the martyred officer and extending sympathies to the bereaved family. He reassured that the security forces’ sacrifices in the fight for peace would not go in vain.

The assault occurred just a day after four soldiers embraced martyrdom and 15 terrorists were eliminated in two separate intelligence-based operations (IBOs) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Additionally, at the start of the month, Pakistan saw a series of deadly confrontations, including an overnight clash in Kalat, where 12 militants were neutralized. Reports indicate that 2024 has been the deadliest year in the past decade for Pakistan’s security forces, with 685 personnel martyred in 444 terrorist attacks.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), security forces conducted nearly 59,775 operations last year, leading to the elimination of 925 terrorists and the martyrdom of 383 officers and soldiers.

Leaders Condemn the Attack

Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti strongly condemned the attack, paying homage to the martyred Levies officer, Ali Nawaz. In a statement on X, Bugti praised Nawaz’s bravery and his ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. He expressed solidarity with the bereaved family and wished a speedy recovery for the injured. Bugti reaffirmed that the sacrifices made by security forces for Balochistan’s safety and stability would always be honored.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also condemned the attack, saluting the martyred officer for his selfless dedication to national security. Expressing his sorrow, the premier prayed for the martyr’s ranks to be elevated and extended condolences to his family. He also reiterated that terrorists would not succeed in their attempts to disrupt Balochistan’s progress and development.

Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also paid tribute to the fallen officer, emphasizing that Ali Nawaz courageously confronted the terrorists and laid down his life in the defense of the nation. He acknowledged his sacrifice as a testament to the unwavering commitment of security personnel in ensuring national peace.
