Huawei Pakistan, in partnership with the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan and DWP Technologies, officially launched the country’s first prefabricated containerized data center on Thursday. This cutting-edge facility is expected to enhance Pakistan’s digital infrastructure by providing scalable and efficient data management solutions.
Federal Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives, Prof. Ahsan Iqbal, inaugurated the advanced Astrolabe Data Center at NED University of Engineering and Technology in Karachi. This milestone initiative is a key component of the government’s E-Pakistan strategy under the Uraan Pakistan program, marking a major advancement in the country’s technological modernization and its transition toward a knowledge-driven economy.
Speaking to Gwadar Pro, Syed Arsalan Manzoor, Country Manager for Data Center Facility and Critical Business at Huawei, emphasized the project’s significance. He noted that the data center would cater to the increasing demands of the education sector, supporting research, digital learning, and administrative needs. Leveraging Huawei’s modular technology, the facility aims to drive Pakistan’s digital transformation, aligning with the evolving needs of the modern technological landscape.
The Astrolabe Data Center is set to transform Pakistan’s tech industry by facilitating big data analytics, offering Maktab ERP solutions, and providing high-performance computing services, including Al-Sadeem and Al-Meidsa. These services will be made available at subsidized rates to students, researchers, and industry professionals, fostering innovation and technological growth.
As per the latest figures from the Data Center Map, Pakistan currently has 22 data centers located in key cities. Karachi, the country’s largest economic hub, leads with 10 data centers, underscoring its role as a central point for business and technology. Lahore, known for its expanding IT sector and industrial development, follows with 8 data centers, while Islamabad, the capital and a key location for government and educational institutions, hosts 4 data centers.
