The Russian Ambassador to Pakistan, Albert P. Khorev, stated that in 2025, Russia and Pakistan will prioritize collaboration in key sectors, including energy, industry, agriculture, and transportation. A major focus will be the modernization of Karachi Steel Mills as part of their industrial cooperation efforts.
Ambassador Khorev highlighted Russia’s willingness to enhance cooperation with Pakistan through international transport corridors such as the “North-South” route and the “Belarus-Russia-Kazakhstan-Uzbekistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan” corridor. Speaking to Russia’s state-owned TASS News Agency, he mentioned that discussions are underway regarding the modernization of the Quetta-Taftan railway line, along with expanding maritime cargo transportation.
Regarding regional security, he reaffirmed Russia and Pakistan’s shared commitment to promoting stability in Afghanistan and countering terrorism. He expressed Russia’s support for Pakistan’s counter-terrorism initiatives and emphasized their ongoing cooperation in multilateral platforms, including the Moscow Format of Consultations, where Afghanistan’s neighboring countries engage in dialogue on mutual security concerns.
Amid shifting global political and economic dynamics, Khorev underscored the increasing relevance of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) as a major regional entity. He stressed the importance of Pakistan-Russia cooperation within the SCO to boost economic potential, strengthen industrial ties, develop independent financial systems, improve transport and logistics, and address emerging security challenges.
The Ambassador also highlighted Russia’s constructive engagement with Pakistan at the United Nations, where both countries share common stances on global issues like information security and preventing an arms race in outer space.
Furthermore, he welcomed Pakistan’s interest in joining BRICS, emphasizing the country’s potential involvement in the New Development Bank, which plays a crucial role in financing infrastructure and sustainable development projects for BRICS members and other developing nations.
