Ne Zha 2 set to break global animated box office records and also become the first Chinese movie to cross the 10-billion-yuan mark.
Chinese online ticketing service Maoyan has once again adjusted its earnings forecast for the animated film Ne Zha 2, now predicting that it will generate 14.25 billion yuan (approximately 1.99 billion U.S. dollars) in China.
According to the latest update announced on Monday night, this new projection would make Ne Zha 2 the highest-grossing animated movie in global box office history. Additionally, it could secure a spot among the top seven highest-earning films worldwide across all genres.
This revised estimate comes just a day after Maoyan had raised its expected domestic box office revenue for the film to over 12 billion yuan, an increase from its February 6 forecast of 10.8 billion yuan. As the first Chinese film anticipated to surpass the 10-billion-yuan mark, Ne Zha 2 represents a major breakthrough for China’s film industry.
