As the Chinese Lunar New Year, or Spring Festival, nears, a festive spirit fills cities across China with lively celebrations and bustling markets spreading joy and optimism to millions. Pakistani merchants attend the Nanjing Spring Festival Fairs and engage in various activities.
One standout event this year is the 24th Nanjing Spring Festival Food & Commodities Fair, held from January 8 to 25. This fair serves as a hub for cultural exchange and business collaboration, drawing merchants from Pakistan and other countries, according to CEN.
Pakistani merchants, showcasing handcrafted items like onyx artworks, rosewood furniture, and furry products such as coats, shawls, and hats, bring an international element to the fair. The event also features over a thousand exhibitors displaying premium food products, green foods, and grain and oil products from across China.
Waseem Zuberi, a veteran participant from Pakistan, expressed his excitement at the fair’s vibrant atmosphere and increased visitor turnout this year. He highlighted the lively environment and the growing enthusiasm for shopping.
Another Pakistani merchant, Ahsan Subhani, noted the rising popularity of Pakistani handicrafts among Chinese consumers, both in physical markets and online platforms. Participating in fairs in cities like Kunming and Hohhot has expanded their reach and customer base. He emphasized how the quality and traditional craftsmanship of Pakistani products resonate with Chinese buyers, leading to increased demand.
Simultaneously, the Nanjing Hexi New Year Market, running from January 9 to 17, has also welcomed merchants from Pakistan, Nepal, Afghanistan, and India. This market, with its vibrant setting and diverse offerings, provides a significant platform for cultural interaction and business opportunities.
