ISLAMABAD – PM approves 20 trade and investment officer posts in China to boost exports and enhance Pakistan’s connections with Chinese businesses.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif recently approved the creation of 20 new trade positions at Pakistan’s embassy and consulates in China to boost exports and reduce the trade deficit with Beijing.
This decision was made during the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) meeting on November 2, following insights from the recent Business Conference in Shenzhen, where it was noted that Pakistan’s current trade and investment resources in China are inadequate.
The new positions, primarily local hires, will include Trade Development Officers and Investment Officers assigned to the Pakistan Embassy in Beijing and consulates in Chengdu, Hong Kong, Guangzhou, and Shanghai.
According to embassy officials, these roles are necessary due to a lack of personnel focused on trade promotion, particularly those fluent in Chinese and familiar with local business practices.
These new trade posts are expected to enhance Pakistan’s connections with Chinese businesses, fostering stronger economic ties.
Moreover, the ECC has informed relevant ministries of the decision, marking a significant advancement in Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to deepen trade relations with its key trading partner.
