Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko in Beijing on Wednesday.
Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, highlighted that the China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership is rooted in historical ties and sustained by strong internal motivations, unaffected by shifts in the global landscape.
Wang emphasized that the development of China-Russia relations neither targets nor is influenced by any third-party nation.
He further noted that, under the guidance of the two countries’ leaders, China-Russia relations have continued to progress positively, benefiting both nations and enabling them to uphold the UN Charter’s core principles effectively.
Wang also referenced the recent BRICS Summit held in Kazan, Russia, where important strides were made in strengthening the BRICS framework, fostering unity and resilience within the Global South, and contributing to global peace and stability.
He encouraged both sides to work together in enhancing cooperation across various fields and to uphold the agreements made by their respective heads of state.
With China now holding the rotating presidency of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), Wang expressed China’s readiness to collaborate closely with Russia to drive further progress within the SCO framework.
Rudenko remarked that high-level diplomacy between the two countries’ leaders has established a solid foundation for the ongoing development of their bilateral relationship.
He affirmed Russia’s commitment to cooperating with China in implementing the leaders’ agreements, maintaining strong diplomatic engagement, strengthening practical cooperation, coordinating on regional and global issues, and advancing Russia-China relations.
Both sides also discussed the Ukraine crisis.
