Chinese Ambassador urges regional cooperation in an interactive meeting with media persons after Premier Li Qiang’s visit.
Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan, Jiang Zaidong, emphasized the deepening and unique alliance between China and Pakistan, calling it a partnership unlike any other.
In a meeting with select journalists at the Chinese Embassy, he highlighted the global importance of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s participation in the 16th BRICS Summit, held from October 22 to 24, 2024, in Kazan, Russia, a significant event closely followed by Pakistan as well.
Ambassador Jiang mentioned the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), which China helped establish 23 years ago. The SCO has grown from six to 26 member states, now representing a substantial global population. He noted President Xi’s continuous support for the SCO’s growth and his promotion of the organization as a platform for unity, trust, and stability, as reaffirmed at this year’s Astana Summit.
The ambassador also recognized Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s participation in the Astana Summit, where he discussed key initiatives aimed at shared goals.
Discussing the 23rd Meeting of the SCO Council of Heads of Government held in Pakistan from October 15-16, 2024, Ambassador Jiang shared that Chinese Premier Li Qiang presented initiatives focusing on expanding practical cooperation, addressing major risks, fostering people-to-people ties, and building on previous consensus.
He explained that these initiatives reflect China’s vision for regional stability and prosperity, as outlined by President Xi at the Astana Summit.
Regarding the BRICS Summit, Ambassador Jiang praised the recent expansion of BRICS, describing it as a “milestone in the evolution of the international landscape.” He reaffirmed China’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with Pakistan within both BRICS and the SCO frameworks.
When asked about Pakistan’s potential BRICS membership, the ambassador expressed China’s interest in fostering solidarity with Pakistan in multilateral platforms. He also underscored the importance of media and cultural exchanges, noting China’s recent hosting of media delegations to highlight progress on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and other major projects.
Ambassador Jiang pointed out that CPEC has now entered a new phase, expanding into emerging sectors like electric vehicles and renewable energy. He added that bilateral discussions during Premier Li Qiang’s recent visit resulted in tangible outcomes, including the signing of numerous cooperation agreements in various fields, with a particular emphasis on security collaboration.
