In the early hours of August 22, 2023,first batch of Chinese homegrown white broiler eggs exported to Pakistan in a special cargo: 172,800 “Guangming No. 2” White Feathered Broiler eggs from China. These eggs, bred by Foshan Gaoming District Xinguang Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Co., Ltd. and the Beijing Institute of Animal Science of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, represent China’s first export of its own poultry breed to Pakistan.
Liu Dawei, deputy general manager of Xinguang and head of the White Feather Broiler project, expressed excitement over this milestone, noting that this marks the beginning of more Chinese breeding eggs being exported globally. The “Guangming No. 2” broilers, which weigh over 3kg at 42 days with a feed-to-weight ratio of 1.32-1.5:1, offer advantages such as rapid growth and high survival rates. The eggs exported to Pakistan are expected to yield more than 50,000 parent broilers after 21 days of incubation, ultimately producing over 7 million commercial broilers, equivalent to more than 21,000 tons of chicken.
For decades, white-feathered broiler breeders have been dominated by developed countries in Europe and the U.S., with China once relying entirely on foreign breeders. However, by the end of 2021, China had successfully developed and reviewed three domestic varieties, including “Guangming No. 2.” Pakistan, now facing a similar dependency on foreign poultry breeders, has taken a significant step forward through this cooperation with China, which sets the stage for the two nations to jointly advance the global broiler breeding industry.
