Wang Yi calls for high-quality China-Cambodia cooperation to further advance strategic partnership and follow neighborhood diplomacy policy.
China is prepared to collaborate closely with Cambodia to maintain high-level exchanges, enhance practical cooperation, and strengthen security ties to advance China-Cambodia strategic cooperation and achieve high-quality development, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Thursday.
Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made these remarks during a meeting with Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sok Chenda Sophea in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
Praising the strong China-Cambodia friendship, Wang emphasized that China places great importance on its relationship with Cambodia within the framework of China’s neighborhood diplomacy.
Highlighting the successful collaboration between the two countries’ law enforcement and security agencies in tackling cross-border crimes, Wang called for intensified efforts to completely eliminate gambling and fraud activities.
Chenda Sophea acknowledged China’s consistent efforts to uphold regional peace and stability, noting that China’s development will benefit not only the region but also Cambodia.
Regarding the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC), Wang said it has significantly improved the well-being of the people in the six participating countries and contributed to their development and revitalization.
He expressed China’s willingness to work with all LMC members, including Cambodia, to foster the overall development of the Indo-China Peninsula and play a leading role in promoting global initiatives and building a community with a shared future for humanity.
Established in China in 2016, the LMC focuses on five key areas of cooperation: connectivity, production capacity, cross-border economic collaboration, water resource management, agriculture, and poverty alleviation.
The member countries of the LMC include China, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam.
