Pakistan and China reaffirm commitment to CPEC that continues to strengthen bilateral relations between both countries.
Pakistan and China have reaffirmed their commitment to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), a key project under the Belt and Road Initiative and a cornerstone of their bilateral relations.
This commitment was renewed during a meeting in Beijing between Minister for Planning, Development Ahsan Iqbal and Vice Chairman of China’s National Development and Reform Commission Zhao Chenxin.
The meeting emphasized on enduring All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership between Pakistan and China and reiterated the mutual commitment to it.
While reviewing the progress, they discussed plans to launch an upgraded version of CPEC, in line with the agreements previously established at the leadership level, aiming to enhance the project’s impact on regional connectivity and economic growth.
The discussions highlighted significant role of CPEC projects in enhancing regional connectivity, boosting trade, and fostering socio-economic development.
There was a mutual agreement to expedite critical projects such as the ML-I railway, KKH realignment, and the completion of the Sukkur-Hyderabad motorway. The Sukkur Hyderabad motorway is essential for linking the Karachi-Peshawar motorway network.
The connectivity between Pakistan with Xinjiang province of China is deemed necessary and highly crucial for making CPEC a success. The dialogue also explored expanding bilateral cooperation into new areas including technology, innovation, education, connectivity, and renewable energy.
Vice Chairman NDRC underscored the potential for increased Chinese investment in Pakistan, particularly within the Special Economic Zones being developed under CPEC.
Zhao Chenxin reaffirmed China’s unwavering support for Pakistan’s development initiatives and expressed confidence in the continued success of the robust partnership between the two states.
