Xinjiang Horgos Port records 4,000+ China-Europe freight trips from January to May marking a key milestone.
Horgos Port, a key rail hub located in northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, has surpassed 4,000 China-Europe (Central Asia) freight train trips so far this year. This milestone was reached with the departure of a train carrying electronic and mechanical goods bound for Duisburg, Germany, on Thursday.
According to China Railway Urumqi Group Co., Ltd., Horgos railway port has now handled more than 46,000 freight train trips in total. The port operates 87 routes, connecting 46 cities and regions across 18 different countries.
Horgos Port, along with Alashankou Port—also known as Alataw Pass—is one of the two main railway gateways in Xinjiang situated along the China-Kazakhstan border.
Recent data revealed that Alashankou Port had processed over 3,000 China-Europe (Central Asia) freight train trips this year, serving 123 routes that reach 21 countries, including Germany and Poland.
Over the last three years, the volume of goods passing through these two ports has consistently recorded double-digit growth.
In 2024 alone, the ports moved 27.5 million tonnes of cargo, which comprised nearly 70 percent of Xinjiang’s total land-based imports and exports. Additionally, over half of China’s total China-Europe freight trains transited through these ports.
So far in 2024, the combined number of China-Europe freight train trips through Horgos and Alashankou reached 16,400, marking a 14 percent increase compared to the previous year.
