Xi urges Party to uphold Chen Yun’s legacy while speaking at an event marking his 120th birth anniversary.
President Xi Jinping on Friday urged the nation to draw inspiration from veteran leader Chen Yun’s legacy, embracing a spirit of initiative and diligence to advance China’s strength and national rejuvenation in the new era.
Xi, also General Secretary of the Communist Party of China and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, speaking at an event marking the 120th anniversary of Chen Yun’s birth at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, paid tribute to Chen’s contributions to the Party and the country.
Chen, who joined the CPC in 1925, was honored as a distinguished revolutionary and statesman, and a key architect of China’s socialist economy. He played an important role in the Party’s leadership under both Mao Zedong and Deng Xiaoping.
He was known for his firm commitment to the principle of seeking truth from facts, and for promoting a work style grounded in thorough investigation and research.
President Xi highlighted Chen’s life as one of greatness and dedication, noting that his moral integrity, leadership insights, and practical work methods remain valuable assets for the Party.
Xi stressed the importance of upholding Chen’s ideals — strengthening political faith, fostering resilience in complex circumstances, and staying committed to the Party’s mission of serving the people wholeheartedly.
He also called for drawing from Chen’s leadership experience to improve the Party’s capacity in governing the country, especially in driving economic and social progress and reinforcing the Party’s internal strength.
Xi emphasized the importance of maintaining strong Party leadership over economic affairs, pushing forward comprehensive reforms, and enhancing high-level opening-up to power China’s modernization.
He underscored the necessity of full and strict governance within the Party to ensure its continued role as the backbone of socialism with Chinese characteristics.
Xi concluded by urging Party members to learn from Chen’s analytical approach and disciplined work ethic, advocating for evidence-based policymaking, a deep understanding of emerging trends, and a clear grasp of public needs to ensure decisions align with practical realities and people’s aspirations.
