President Xi Jinping has urged Shanxi Province in northern China to accelerate the transformation and development of its resource-based economy and contribute meaningfully to the broader goal of advancing Chinese modernization.
Xi, who also serves as General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, made these remarks during an inspection tour of Shanxi from Monday to Tuesday.
On Monday, he visited a monument square in Yangquan City to pay tribute to the fallen heroes of the Eighth Route Army who fought in the Hundred-Regiment Campaign, a major operation during the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression from 1940 to 1941.
Xi highlighted the campaign as powerful evidence of the CPC’s role as the backbone of the resistance effort and called for preserving and passing on the spirit of resistance across generations.
While speaking to students attending an exhibition on the campaign, Xi encouraged the youth to carry forward China’s revolutionary traditions and take on the responsibility of national rejuvenation.
During a visit to Yangquan Valve Co., Ltd., Xi was briefed on Shanxi’s recent achievements in industrial transformation and upgrading, as well as the production and sales of the company’s valve products.
He stressed that traditional manufacturing remains a key pillar of the real economy and emphasized the importance of responding to market needs through scientific and technological innovation to revitalize traditional sectors.
Xi noted that China’s industrial progress now depends heavily on advanced technologies and equipment, and he encouraged the company’s employees to actively contribute to strengthening the country’s manufacturing capabilities.
