Chinese President Xi Jinping urged that both China and France should act as reliable forces in preserving the global order, as well as proactive partners in fostering international growth and promoting multilateral cooperation.
In a phone conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron, Xi emphasized the importance of both countries working together to uphold the authority of the United Nations, protect global trade norms and the international economic system, and truly uphold multilateralism.
Xi recalled his visit to France in May of the previous year, noting that both sides had agreed to carry forward the unique spirit of China-France diplomatic relations, marked by independence, mutual respect, long-term vision, and shared benefits, and adapt it to current global dynamics. Since then, he noted, their cooperation has achieved fresh milestones.
Xi encouraged deeper strategic dialogue and stronger consensus between the two nations. He advocated for expanding traditional cooperation in areas like investment, aerospace, and nuclear energy, while also exploring new collaborations in the digital economy, green innovation, biomedical sciences, and aging-related industries.
He further underlined the importance of boosting cultural and interpersonal exchanges to strengthen the bond between the Chinese and French people.
Marking 80 years since the end of World War II and the founding of the United Nations, Xi highlighted that both China and France, as permanent UN Security Council members and major sovereign nations, played foundational roles in shaping the post-war global order. He called for stronger unity and collaboration between the two.
Amid growing global uncertainty, Xi stressed the importance of China and France making sound strategic decisions together.
Xi reiterated China’s view of Europe as an independent and influential pillar in a multipolar world. He expressed support for the European Union’s pursuit of strategic autonomy and a larger role in global affairs.
He stated that China is prepared to collaborate with the EU to address global challenges and to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes for both sides and the wider world.
President Macron reaffirmed the global importance of both France-China and EU-China relations. He stressed that France values its ties with China regardless of international developments and remains firmly committed to the one-China policy.
Macron expressed France’s desire to deepen cooperation with China across various sectors, including trade and investment, and to sustain the positive trajectory of bilateral relations.
In response to evolving global dynamics, Macron stated that France is keen to work more closely with China on major international issues, fulfilling their joint responsibilities as permanent UN Security Council members to prevent crises from worsening or spreading, and to help maintain both global and regional peace.
He also called for stronger dialogue and engagement between the EU and China to safeguard shared interests.
Finally, Xi and Macron exchanged comprehensive views on key international and regional matters, including the conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East, as well as the Iranian nuclear issue.
