Chinese President Xi Jinping has emphasised the importance of integrating public opinion into the formulation of China’s 15th Five-Year Plan (2026–2030), following a national online campaign that gathered over 3.11 million suggestions.
The campaign, which ran from May 20 to June 20, encouraged citizens to submit their views on the country’s future development priorities. According to Xi, who also serves as General Secretary of the Communist Party of China and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, the strong public engagement reflects China’s model of whole-process people’s democracy.
Xi praised the campaign’s wide participation and meaningful contributions, urging relevant departments to carefully analyze and integrate the suggestions into the upcoming plan. He also called on Party committees and government bodies at all levels to remain closely connected with the people, understand their needs, and draw on their input to shape policies that reflect collective aspirations.
China’s five-year plans have served as strategic blueprints for national development since the 1950s, guiding policymaking across economic, social, and environmental sectors. The upcoming 15th plan will lay out medium- and long-term development goals for the period 2026 to 2030.
