President Xi honors Cambodian Queen Mother for strengthening ties as he met with her in the Royal Palace in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
Chinese President Xi Jinping stated on Thursday that Queen Mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk has been both a witness to and a driving force behind the enduring friendship between China and Cambodia.
During their meeting at the Royal Palace, Xi acknowledged the Queen Mother’s deep affection for the Chinese people and affirmed that she fully deserves the Friendship Medal of the People’s Republic of China in recognition of her contributions.
He further remarked that China is like a second home to her and warmly welcomed her to visit at any time.
Xi also paid tribute to Cambodia’s late King Father Norodom Sihanouk, describing him as a symbol of China-Cambodia friendship. He noted that alongside senior Chinese leaders of his time, King Sihanouk helped lay the foundation for the resilient and unshakable bond between the two nations.
“We will never forget his historic contributions,” Xi further emphasized.
In response, the Queen Mother praised Xi as Cambodia’s greatest friend and expressed her joy in seeing how the bilateral friendship, built by earlier generations of leaders, continues to thrive.
She added that she firmly believes the ironclad friendship between Cambodia and China will only grow stronger and more enduring over time.
