July 29 – Xi holds welcome ceremony for Timor Leste’s President on his visit to China, holding talks about enhancing bilateral relations.
On Monday, Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Timor-Leste President Jose Ramos-Horta at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. The leaders also participated in a signing ceremony.
Ramos-Horta arrived in Beijing on Sunday for a four-day state visit, marking his first trip to China since assuming office in 2022 and the first state visit by a Timor-Leste president since the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two nations in 2002.
The discussions centered on enhancing bilateral relations and China’s commitment to deepen reforms, aiming to boost global economic development and cooperation.
President Xi underscored China’s respect for all countries, regardless of their size, and expressed readiness to advance the comprehensive strategic partnership with Timor-Leste for mutual benefit.
China was the first to recognize and establish diplomatic ties with an independent Timor-Leste, reflecting its peaceful foreign policy and commitment to treating all nations equally.
Last September, President Xi and Prime Minister Xanana Gusmao of Timor-Leste jointly declared an upgrade of their bilateral relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership, marking a new chapter in their relationship, according to the spokesperson.
As Xi holds welcome ceremony for Timor Leste’s President, it indicates a positive development of relationship between two states.
