Xi calls for successful conclusion of five-year plan for military development as he attended the plenary meeting for PLA.
Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday emphasized the need to successfully complete the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025) for military development.
As the general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, Xi made these remarks while attending a plenary meeting of the People’s Liberation Army and the People’s Armed Police Force delegation during the third session of the 14th National People’s Congress.
He urged the military to remain confident, tackle challenges directly, and implement high-quality development strategies to meet the established objectives on time.
Reflecting on the past four years of the plan’s implementation, Xi noted significant progress while acknowledging persisting challenges and issues that need to be addressed.
He called for a military development approach that is high-quality, efficient, cost-effective, and sustainable, ensuring long-term viability and combat readiness.
Xi stressed the importance of adopting modern management practices, improving strategic oversight, and enhancing coordination to execute the plan systematically and effectively.
Highlighting the need for civil-military integration, he encouraged utilizing civilian resources to improve military development outcomes.
Xi also pushed for the rapid advancement of new combat capabilities, urging the creation of mechanisms to swiftly adopt and apply emerging technologies in military operations.
Furthermore, he called for a robust oversight system to detect and eliminate corruption, ensuring transparency and accountability in military development.
