Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasized the need to comprehensively advance high-quality cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). His remarks were delivered on Monday during the fourth symposium on BRI construction work, where he highlighted the importance of strategic confidence, focus, and responsibility in shaping a brighter future for BRI cooperation.
Xi noted that significant achievements have been made since the initiative’s launch in 2013, fostering stronger friendships with participating countries and driving their economic and social development. However, given the current global landscape marked by turbulence and change, he called for managing risks and geopolitical challenges effectively to ensure continued progress in BRI collaboration.
Stressing the need to balance benefits for participating countries with China’s own interests, Xi urged taking concrete measures to protect China’s overseas investments. To date, over 150 countries and 30 international organizations have signed BRI agreements, with Chinese companies establishing 17,000 overseas enterprises and creating 530,000 local jobs through associated projects.
During the symposium, Xi reflected on the evolution of BRI cooperation, declaring it has now entered a phase of high-quality development. He reiterated the principles of “planning together, building together, and benefiting together,” while advocating for open, green, and clean cooperation aimed at sustainable and people-centered development.
Focusing on connectivity, Xi underscored the importance of fostering win-win development with higher resilience and sustainability. He called for improving mechanisms for planning, coordination, and management, emphasizing persistence and courage in overcoming challenges to transform BRI blueprints into tangible outcomes, contributing to a shared future for humanity.
