Xi and Oli meet to strengthen China Nepal partnership while praising the mutual, longstanding commitment to enhancing friendship between two countries.
Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Nepali Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Tuesday, vowing to strengthen their strategic partnership with Nepal.
Xi praised Oli’s longstanding dedication to fostering friendship between the two nations, emphasizing that China and Nepal, bound by shared geography, are good neighbors, friends, and partners. Their bilateral relations have experienced stable and positive growth.
With next year marking the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations, Xi reiterated that China views Nepal as a key partner in its regional diplomacy. He expressed a commitment to further deepen their traditional friendship and advance the China-Nepal strategic cooperation, ensuring mutual development and prosperity.
Xi emphasized China’s respect for Nepal’s sovereignty and its chosen development path. He assured Nepal of China’s unwavering support for its independence and territorial integrity and expressed readiness to strengthen strategic mutual trust and support on core issues.
China is eager to enhance practical cooperation with Nepal in areas like the Belt and Road Initiative, infrastructure, and communications. Xi also offered continued support for Nepal’s economic and social development and encouraged Chinese businesses to invest in Nepal.
Xi expressed support for Nepal’s declaration of 2025 as Nepal Visit Year in China, inviting Nepali citizens for business, tourism, and education exchanges. China also seeks to bolster collaboration with Nepal in international forums such as the United Nations to defend the interests of developing countries.
Oli, acknowledging China’s impressive development, expressed Nepal’s eagerness to learn from China’s experiences to aid its own growth. He also reaffirmed that Nepal and China share only friendship, thanking China for its valuable support and encouraging more Chinese investment in Nepal.
Furthermore, Oli reiterated Nepal’s firm adherence to the one-China principle, stating that Nepal will not allow its territory to be used for anti-China activities. He voiced strong opposition to foreign interference in China’s internal matters.
A joint statement from both nations was issued on Tuesday, highlighting the mutual commitments between China and Nepal.
