Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi announced on Tuesday that China will collaborate with African nations to establish the “Africa Solar Belt” program, aiming to support Africa in pursuing green and low-carbon development.
Speaking after his meeting with Republic of the Congo President Denis Sassou Nguesso, Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, emphasized China’s commitment to advancing eco-friendly initiatives in Africa.
Addressing questions about joint efforts to tackle climate change, Wang noted that President Sassou’s focus on this issue highlights the forward-thinking leadership of African nations. He added that China has supported Africa’s green transition, with over 1.5 GW of photovoltaic power plant capacity already installed, benefiting thousands of households across the continent.
Wang highlighted Chinese President Xi Jinping’s vision of advancing eco-friendly modernization with Africa, describing it as a shared objective and a core focus of his visit.
Furthermore, he pledged China’s implementation of the Partnership Action for Green Development, along with clean energy projects introduced at the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation.
Wang also underscored China’s intention to collaborate with African countries to enhance international climate governance, promoting fairness and shared responsibility.
Calling on developed nations to recognize their historical responsibilities, Wang urged them to fulfill their commitments by providing financial, technological, and capacity-building support to developing countries, especially in Africa.
