Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi remarked on Friday that the recent high-level consultations, specifically the Senior Officials Meeting of the China-Indonesia Joint Foreign and Defense Ministerial Dialogue (“2+2” ministerial dialogue), underscored the strategic importance of the bilateral relationship. He noted that these discussions opened a new chapter in strategic mutual trust and security cooperation between China and Indonesia.
Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made these comments while co-chairing the 5th Meeting of the Joint Commission on Bilateral Cooperation alongside Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi in Beijing.
Wang emphasized that China has consistently approached its relationship with Indonesia from a strategic and long-term perspective. He expressed China’s readiness to work collaboratively to implement the key agreements reached by the leaders of both countries.
He also highlighted that under the strategic leadership of China and Indonesia’s leaders, political trust has steadily deepened, leading to significant achievements in the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative.
Wang pointed out that this year marks the 70th anniversary of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, and next year will be the 70th anniversary of the Bandung Conference. He affirmed China’s willingness to closely collaborate with Indonesia on international and regional matters, promoting the principles established by these historic milestones.
Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi, in turn, acknowledged that China has become one of Indonesia’s most crucial strategic partners.
She noted the significant growth in bilateral trade and investment over the past decade and expressed Indonesia’s high regard for the strong mutual trust and deep friendship with China. Retno emphasized Indonesia’s intent to use the upcoming 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations as an opportunity to further strengthen ties with China.
Retno also affirmed Indonesia’s readiness to collaborate with China in multilateral settings, uphold the principles of multilateralism, and enhance South-South cooperation.
