Tesla’s energy storage megafactory in Shanghai is expected to be completed by the end of this year, according to Tesla China.
The factory, which began construction in late May, will focus on producing Tesla’s energy-storage batteries, known as Megapack. Mass production is scheduled for the first quarter of 2025, with an expected annual output of 10,000 units, equating to approximately 40 GWh of energy storage capacity.
Spanning around 200,000 square meters, the factory involves a total investment of about 1.45 billion yuan (approximately $199 million), as reported by the administration of the Lin-gang Special Area in the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone.
This plant will be Tesla’s first energy storage megafactory outside the United States, and its second factory in Shanghai, following the opening of its gigafactory in 2019.
