SUPARCO joins China’s Chang’E 8 lunar mission which is set to launch in 2028 making it a significant achievement for Pakistan’s space program.
The Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has announced a major partnership with China’s Chang’E 8 mission, set to launch in 2028, marking a groundbreaking step in lunar exploration.
This collaboration is a significant achievement for Pakistan’s space program, as it involves SUPARCO’s indigenous rover joining the mission to explore the Moon’s surface. The approximately 35-kilogram rover will be part of China’s Chang’E 8 mission, which falls under the broader International Lunar Research Station (ILRS) initiative. The mission aims to explore the lunar south pole, known for its challenging terrain and scientific potential. The objectives include conducting research on the Moon’s surface and testing advanced technologies for future lunar and planetary missions.
The mission will carry out numerous scientific experiments, such as analyzing lunar soil, mapping the surface, and testing technologies to support long-term human presence on the Moon.
Equipped with advanced scientific instruments, SUPARCO’s rover will be vital in collecting data that could facilitate future lunar exploration.
This collaboration with China underscores the strong bilateral ties between the two countries and their mutual ambition for advancing space exploration.
