Students play a key role in strengthening Pak-China ties, Zhao Shiren stated while attending annual dinner hosted by GCU IR department.
A number of Consul Generals from different countries, along with other esteemed guests, attended the annual dinner hosted by the Department of International Relations at Government College University (GCU) Lahore on Friday.
Speaking at the event, Chinese Consul General Zhao Shiren encouraged students to uphold values of honesty, integrity, and excellence, stressing their role in preserving the university’s legacy and strengthening China-Pakistan relations. The distinguished guests included Turkish Consul General Durmus Bastug, Iranian Consul General Mehran Mohdfar, and Dr. Asghar Masoodi, Director General of Khana-e-Farhang Islamic Republic of Iran in Lahore. Also in attendance were GCU’s Prof. Emeritus Dr. Iqbal Shahid, Dr. Ahmad Raza Khan, head of the International Relations Department, Chief Librarian M. Naeem, and Controller of Examinations M. Shahzad.
Turkish Consul General Durmus Bastug underscored the expanding collaboration between Turkey and Pakistan in education, technical training, and vocational fields. He highlighted ongoing faculty and student exchange programs as well as joint research initiatives aimed at strengthening academic ties between the two nations.
Iranian Consul General Mehran Mohdfar stressed the significance of educational and cultural exchanges in enhancing diplomatic relations between Iran and Pakistan. Dr. Ahmad Raza Khan from the International Relations Department remarked that engaging with various consulates would create new academic opportunities for students and lay the foundation for stronger bilateral cooperation.
During the event, students delivered speeches in Chinese, Turkish, and Persian, emphasizing the importance of international relations, cultural harmony, and global friendship. The evening concluded with a moment of silence in honor of the martyrs who had sacrificed their lives for the country.
