At Shenzhen Airport, a leading tech and manufacturing hub in Guangdong, travelers can now park their cars automatically in the parking lot by simply using a mobile app, allowing them to move their vehicles from the passenger area to their parking spots with ease.
The trial for the automated valet parking service, launched on Monday at Shenzhen Baoan International Airport, is a collaboration between several companies, including Huawei and the Shenzhen Urban Transport Planning Center Co., Ltd.
With the app, drivers can select parking spots, monitor real-time information about car routes, surrounding conditions, and location, and even summon their cars to the passenger area. The automated vehicles can yield to oncoming traffic and pedestrians.
The trial is restricted to vehicles equipped with Huawei’s advanced driving system.
Huawei’s Intelligent Automotive Solution CEO, Jin Yuzhi, explained that airports, with their high volume of drivers, make ideal locations for testing automated valet parking, which can save travelers time while meeting the challenges of precise vehicle control in busy areas.
Moreover, Lin Tao, president of the Shenzhen Urban Transport Planning Center, noted that the airport trial could act as a model for expanding the technology to other high-traffic locations like hospitals, tourist attractions, and shopping malls.
