Qingdao, China showcases charm at Philadelphia Flower Show and also highlighted the traditional Chinese horticulture.
Qingdao, a coastal city in eastern China’s Shandong Province, showcased its beauty at the 196th Philadelphia Flower Show on Saturday, marking the third consecutive year that a Chinese city has participated in this prestigious horticultural event.
With the theme “Qingdao, a City Full of Charm and Vitality,” the city’s 70-square-meter exhibition garden seamlessly integrates Qingdao’s coastal allure with traditional Chinese horticulture.
Throughout the event, the Qingdao pavilion will feature live demonstrations of its rich intangible cultural heritage, including Laixi puppet shows, Laoshan tea ceremonies, Peking opera performances, traditional incense crafting, and folk paper-cutting art.
Beyond the garden display, Qingdao also organized a cultural and tourism promotion event on Saturday, further highlighting its appeal.
In his address, Chinese Consul General in New York, Chen Li, emphasized the importance of cultural exchange, stating, “By strengthening interactions, deepening our cultural ties, and exploring mutual interests, we can forge lasting friendships. China remains open and welcomes more people-to-people exchanges.”
Consequently, Qingdao follows the participation of Chengdu in 2023 and Zhengzhou in 2024, continuing China’s presence at the Philadelphia Flower Show.
As one of the most significant horticultural exhibitions in the U.S., the Philadelphia Flower Show launched its 2025 edition on Saturday under the theme “Gardens of Tomorrow,” focusing on innovative designs and limitless creativity in horticulture.
