Punjab to launch Green Transport System through China’s collaboration to boost sustainable transport cooperation between two countries.
On September 2, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif announced a collaboration with China to launch a Green Transport System. During a meeting with Liu Junhua, Chairman of Chongqing CRR Hang Tong, Sharif highlighted the significance of the partnership and expressed eagerness to leverage China’s expertise.

The initiative will introduce 5,000 electric buses in Punjab, beginning with 1,000 buses in major cities. Sharif emphasized the goal of establishing a comprehensive green transport system and noted growing interest in electric vehicles, appreciating China’s role in advancing the transport sector.

Sharif assured the Chinese delegation of full support for their companies in Lahore, expressing ambitions for bullet trains, metro buses, and electrified buses across districts. The delegation also updated Sharif on the unified charging system for electric transport and a bus stop mini shopping mall model.
