In a concerted effort to nurture a dynamic culture of Chinese language acquisition and skill development, the China Study Centre (CSC) at Karakoram International University (KIU) in Gilgit Baltistan organized a noteworthy event on Thursday.
The “Chinese Speaking and Character Writing Competition,” held in collaboration with the International Office-KIU and the Confucius Set-Institute of Professional Development, aimed to ignite the linguistic passion of students, encouraging them not only to speak but also to master the characters of the Chinese language.
Supported by the Chinese Embassy in Islamabad, the engaging competition brought together Chinese language students eager to showcase their language proficiency. Top performers were recognized with letters of appreciation for their outstanding efforts.
Dr. Khalid Mehmood Alam, Assistant Professor at the CSC, KIU, highlighted the primary objective of the event, stating, “The main goal was to raise awareness about the importance of the Chinese language in Pakistan, especially in Gilgit Baltistan.” In an interview with Gwadar Pro, he elaborated, “This event surpassed the bounds of a mere contest; it served as a celebration of language and stood as a testament to the dedication of students eager to delve into the intricacies of Chinese writing and character formation.” Dr. Alam’s statement underscores the competition’s broader mission to promote linguistic awareness, emphasizing the significance of the Chinese language in Pakistan, particularly in Gilgit Baltistan, extending its impact beyond academic realms.
The CSC at KIU consistently organizes such events, as demonstrated in May 2023 when the center hosted Chinese language and Chinese cooking competitions for students.
