Islamabad, Pakistan — In a significant diplomatic meeting earlier today, Mr. Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the Communist Party of China (IDCPC), called on Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad. The meeting underscored the enduring strategic partnership between Pakistan and China, with a focus on the continued development of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
Reflecting on his recent visit to China, Prime Minister Sharif shared insights from his productive discussions with President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang. He lauded the visionary leadership of China for the ongoing enhancement of Pakistan-China strategic relations. Both nations reiterated their commitment to advancing CPEC to its next phase, aiming to further bolster economic collaboration and regional connectivity.
“The early completion and implementation of all ongoing, as well as new CPEC projects, will significantly contribute to Pakistan’s economic growth and inclusive development,” Prime Minister Sharif emphasized. He expressed optimism that the accelerated progress of CPEC initiatives would serve as a catalyst for Pakistan’s economic revitalization.
Mr. Liu Jianchao echoed these sentiments, affirming the deep-rooted bond between the two countries. “Pakistan and China are iron brothers, strategic partners, and most-trusted friends,” he stated. Liu highlighted the special place Pakistan holds in China’s foreign policy and reiterated China’s unwavering support for Pakistan’s economic progress. He assured continuous collaboration to realize the upgraded version of CPEC.
In addition to discussing CPEC, Prime Minister Sharif briefed the Chinese delegation on the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC). Established through a comprehensive “Whole of the Government” approach, the SIFC aims to attract investment in critical sectors and has emerged as a pivotal platform offering a one-window facility for both domestic and foreign investors.
The meeting concluded with both sides expressing their resolve to deepen their strategic partnership and expedite the implementation of key projects that are vital for regional stability and economic prosperity.
