President Zardari sees a bright future for Pakistan’s maritime sector, saying it is becoming a cornerstone of trade, connectivity, and long-term economic growth. He stressed that Pakistan is emerging as a responsible member of the global maritime community with a clear vision for sustainable development.
Speaking on World Maritime Day 2025, the President said Pakistan’s maritime future will be shaped by port modernisation, digitisation, and infrastructure upgrades. He pointed out that both Karachi Port and Port Qasim are being developed to become competitive regional trade hubs.
Zardari explained that maritime policies are under review to strengthen the national shipping industry. He noted that incentives for Pakistani shipping companies will reduce dependence on foreign carriers, protect freight security, and save valuable foreign exchange.
The President also highlighted the phased rollout of the Port Community System under the Pakistan Single Window. This initiative will digitise port operations, connect all supply chain stakeholders, and align Pakistan with global standards. According to him, these reforms are part of a national strategy designed to boost competitiveness and improve regional integration.
Furthermore, Zardari said that port modernisation will expand trade volumes and create new employment opportunities. He emphasised that maritime development is central to Pakistan’s progress and assured that all sector stakeholders will be included in the reform process.
“President Zardari sees a bright future for Pakistan’s maritime sector,” he concluded, adding that with unity of purpose and strong policies, the country can achieve a sustainable and globally respected maritime identity.
